Utah now has more than half of Utah's law enforcement agencies participating
SALT LAKE CITY - May 15, 2008 - Public Engines, Inc. today announced that more than half of Utah's law enforcement agencies are now making local up-to-date crime data available to the public through CrimeReports.com. With funding provided by Attorney General Mark Shurtleff's office and the state legislature, Utah law enforcement agencies are now able to provide crime data and real-time crime alerts to members of their respective communities.
"CrimeReports.com is setting a new standard for communications between law enforcement agencies and the public," said Ken Wallentine, Chief of Law Enforcement for Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff's Office. "We are thrilled with how quickly Utah law enforcement agencies are adopting CrimeReports.com, and hope to see more Utah agencies using it soon."
Today's announcement comes just five months after the funds were made available and signals an increased demand for neighborhood level crime information to be distributed widely from one central website.
"The growth CrimeReports.com has experienced in just four months demonstrates that law enforcement agencies throughout the state want to involve community members in policing, and that community members want to know what's going on in their neighborhoods," said Greg Whisenant, CEO of Public Engines. "Utah has been leading the nation in law enforcement information sharing, so this announcement today further reinforces its position."
